Ham Week 2011
It's Australian Ham Week from July 3 - 10, and
to celebrate we're recognising some of the nation's best ham made
from 100% Australian pork.
Not many people know that 80% of hams sold in Australia are
actually made from frozen imported pork. To be sure you're
supporting local farmers and buying Australian, look for the
pink Australian PorkMark.
In June, Australian Pork conducted the search for Australia's
best ham in the National PorkMark Ham Awards for
Excellence. This year 123 hams from every state and
territory were put to the test by fleischmeister Horst Schurger and
chefs Paul McDonald and Simon Bestley. The judging criteria
included the general appearance of the hams, texture, aroma and of
course taste.
