From a favourite lunchbox ingredient to the feature of festive
meals, ham is much-loved and this week it's the centre of
Australian Ham Week celebrates and promotes 100% Australian
Not many people know that more than two thirds of ham sold in
Australia is actually made from frozen imported pork. To be
sure you're supporting local farmers and buying 100% Australian
ham, look for the pink Australian PorkMark or
a ham on the bone in the lead up to Christmas.
Australian Pork conducted the search for Australia's best ham
made from Australian pork in the 2016
Australian PorkMark Ham Awards. The 150 hams
from across the country were put to the test by fleischmeister
Horst Schurger and chefs Paul McDonald and Nick Whitehouse.
The judging criteria included the general appearance of the hams,
texture, aroma and - of course - taste.
